Designed and authorized by ZigZag, this product is a faithful reproduction of the SD40-2 locomotive. It carefully recreates the intricate details and design, including larger front and rear "porches" compared to previous models, three roof-mounted radiator fans, and a large exhaust stack.

The EMD SD40-2 was manufactured by EMD from 1972 to 1989 as part of EMD's Dash 2 series. Although higher horsepower locomotives were available at the time, its reliability and versatility made the SD40-2 one of EMD's best-selling models, surpassed only by the GP9. It remained the industry standard for decades after its introduction. The SD40-2 is an improved version of the SD40.

The SD40-2 was used in Canada, Mexico, Brazil and Guinea. To meet the specifications of the exporting countries, special versions were developed, such as the JT26CW-SS for Great Britain (British Rail Class 59), the GT26CW-2 for Yugoslavia, South Korea, Iran, Morocco, Peru and Pakistan, and the GT26CU-2 for Zimbabwe and Brazil. Algeria received a special version called the GT26HCW-2.
