- The Chrysler Building is a skyscraper in the eastern part of Manhattan, New York City. At 320 metres (1,050 ft) tall, it held the title of the world's tallest building until the completion of the Empire State Building in 1931. Although surpassed in height, it remains the world's tallest brick building. After the events of September 11, it regained its status as New York City's second tallest building until the Bank of America Tower reached its highest height at 365.8 metres (1,200 ft) in December 2007. Many contemporary architects still consider the Chrysler Building, known for its design, to be one of New York City's finest architectural achievements.
