Ever wondered what happens when a criminologist with a penchant for football and a deep love of trains dives headfirst into the world of MOCs (My Own Creations)? Meet Tobi, or as he’s famously known in the brick world, Brickcity_steinbrueck—a 34-year-old creator from northern Germany whose designs are as precise as his day job and as vibrant as his small-town life with his wife, baby, and dog.

Trains, Tracks, and a Tinge of Genius

Tobi's fascination with trains started early, thanks to the rhythmic clatter of tracks near his home. That childhood curiosity has grown into a passion for recreating real-life locomotives, like the BR-185 Locomotive from Bombardier Traxx Series. This sleek, cargo-hauling beauty is not just a model; it's a testament to Tobi’s relentless pursuit of realism in his builds.

When asked about the challenges of building trains, Tobi revealed, "Round shapes are always difficult to solve when it comes to square blocks. It's a try-and-error process to find the best parts." The result? Models that not only look stunning but feel like they could chug out of your living room and onto the tracks.

A Brickcity Born of Necessity

Tobi’s journey into MOC design began in 2020 when he started building his own brickcity. Frustrated by the lack of realistic buildings, cars, and trains, he decided to create his own. And wow, did he deliver! Over 50 MOCs later, his creations range from modern locomotives to intricate cityscapes, each one a masterpiece of innovation and dedication.

“I’ve always wanted brick builds to become more realistic,” Tobi shared. His philosophy? Keep it relatable. “I look for trains that everyone could use!” Whether it’s a cargo train, a train station, or city buildings, Tobi’s designs are both functional and fantastical.

Inspiration and the Power of Collaboration

Tobi doesn’t work in isolation. He draws inspiration from real trains and fellow MOC designers like Fabian H., Leon S., and Hardy D. “Thanks to those guys for always helping me out!” he said, proving that even the most brilliant creators benefit from collaboration.

When it comes to his process, Tobi admits, “I don’t have a standard process; I’ve always just tried and tried.” This trial-and-error method has become his signature style, ensuring each design is better than the last.

Beyond the Bricks

When Tobi isn’t immersed in designing his next train or cityscape, he’s a family man who enjoys hiking with his loved ones and playing football with his team. But his proudest recent achievement isn’t a MOC; it’s the birth of his son. Clearly, creativity and building run in the family!

A Call to All Brick Enthusiasts

Tobi’s passion for MOC trains and cityscapes is infectious. His works are a love letter to realism and ingenuity, and they’re a must-see for anyone who appreciates the artistry of bricks. Got an idea for a specific train? Tobi wants to hear from you! “Let me know if you have ideas to improve my work or if you want me to create a specific train for you!”
