Have you ever wondered what it takes to transform tiny bricks into towering vehicles of engineering marvel? Meet Zaturon, a 21-year-old MOC designer from Ontario, Canada, who has taken the art of brick-built storytelling to an entirely new level. A full-time economics student by day and a masterful MOC designer by night, Zaturon is living proof that passion and perseverance can create something truly iconic.
A Designer with a Story
Zaturon’s journey into the world of MOC (My Own Creation) began on February 13, 2021, when he first dove into the intricate world of custom brick builds. “A lot of it was pure trial and error,” he recalls, laughing about the early days of experimenting with building techniques. Fast forward nearly four years, and he’s created around 50 official MOCs—and possibly over 200 if you count unreleased gems.
One of his most popular designs is the LAV-25, a compact armored vehicle inspired by a real-life staple of Canadian military engineering. “It’s not my newest or favorite release,” Zaturon admits, “but it has become an iconic symbol of my design philosophy.” And what exactly is that philosophy? To create models that honor their real-life counterparts while adding his unique spin.
Bricks with a Purpose
For Zaturon, MOC design isn’t just about building—it’s about storytelling. His ongoing Military Series is a testament to this. “My inspiration is mostly just off of a basis of making vehicles that I want to/can apply into my on-going brick-built storyline,” he says. Each vehicle is crafted with meticulous care, starting with research: poring over photos, 3D models, and blueprints before diving into the bricks themselves. From the hull to the turret, every detail matters.
Despite the challenges, like aligning the wheels on his M1256A1 ICVV Stryker, Zaturon finds creative solutions. “I used brackets to connect the rear set of wheels to the hull,” he explains, showcasing his knack for innovation. The result? A design so versatile he created multiple variants from it—his personal favorite among his creations.
A Builder’s Universe
But Zaturon’s talents extend far beyond bricks. When he’s not designing, you’ll find him cooking, watching anime, playing video games, or even creating stop-motion animations. It’s this rich tapestry of hobbies that fuels his creativity, giving his designs a unique flair.
Looking ahead, Zaturon dreams of expanding his lineup with rear-echelon support vehicles—think logistics, air defense, and communications assets. He’s also proud to have established his own MOC design firm, BTD Studio, a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit.
